Spring Break

My niece had the same break as the girls did from their preschool. My sister was off the entire week as well, so the girls and I headed to Tomball to spend some time with my family. The weather was beautiful, so we made a trip to the zoo, played at parks, watched Madelyn at her gymnastics, played in the water, and had an early birthday celebration for Makenzie and Ashlyn. My sweet niece decided she wanted to have a party for her cousins. So, with balloons and streamers in hand, she went to work decorating her house for the party. She planned games for the girls, patiently gave instructions on how to play the games, and had prizes for the winner(s). The girls had a blast and it was so sweet to see how excited Madelyn was to do a special birthday celebration for her cousins.

Monkey #2

This is why Ashlyn has started gymnastics like her sister.....

I hope to get some photos from the gym posted soon!

Music Program

At the start of March, the girls had their "Art of Praise" preschool music program. This was Ashlyn's first time to be on stage in front of a large crowd and Makenzie's second program of the school year. Makenzie did a great job singing her songs. Ashlyn was a little preoccupied with the other kids around her, so she pretty much just stayed in her place and watched the action around her. At the end of the music program, parents were encouraged to walk around the worship hall and view their child's art work. My pictures of the girls onstage were poor quality, but I did manage to get each of them with one of their pieces of art.

Making Pizza

I have recently started making my own pizzas. I can see why people just order them...you can buy them cheaper than making them homemade! However, the girls have absolutely loved helping me roll out the dough, mix up the pizza sauce, and place toppings on the pizza. Here are my little chefs at work...

2 1/2 going on 5

Ashlyn has always had a large vocabulary for her age. She can also hold a great conversation and has done this for quite some time. Here is a recent conversation she had with her sister while coloring Valentine's day pictures...

Ashlyn: "You're doing a good job Kenz."
Makenzie: "You are too!"
Ashlyn: "No I am not. I'm scribblin'."
Makenzie (being an encourager): "It looks good!"

I recently bought the girls a cd for the car that has a variety of songs, mostly Bible- based. There is one song they really enjoy that tells the story of Adam and Eve. At one point, the man sings how Adam takes a shovel and says, "And that's why we're all working now." Here is the conversation that follows....

Ashlyn: "Mommy, daddy works."
Me: "Yes he does."
Ashlyn: "Mr. Jason works."
Me: "Uh huh."
Ashlyn: "Uncle Nathan works."
Me: "Yes he does."
Ashlyn: "Mommy, girls don't work!"

And, let me not fail to mention that this 2 1/2 yr old has become pretty sneaky around the house. If it is really quiet and we have called out for Ashlyn with no response, then you know she is doing something she shouldn't be doing. Like the other day when she was "supposedly" playing in the playroom while I gave Makenzie a bath. It's pretty quiet, so I leave Kenz to check on Ashlyn. I find her in the kitchen, squatting by the sink (in hopes of not being found), face stuffed with a cookie that she had taken from the stove (which she had to get a chair to reach it!) Here is conversation that follows:

Me: "Ashlyn, you already had a cookie for dessert. Mommy didn't say you could have another one." I pick her up and place her back in the playroom and then head back to the kitchen (and out of sight) to put the cookies away. I think I am going to pull one over by placing them in the microwave. Here is the rest of the conversation:

Ashlyn: "Mommy, I can still reach them."
Me (pretending I don't know what she is talking about): " Still reach what?"
Ashlyn: "The cookies in the microwave."
Seriously!? She was listening to my every move!!!!

And finally, Ashlyn is really into telling me all about the kids in her preschool class. Here is our conversation at the dinner table ( I'll use a different name).....

Ashlyn: "Mommy, Sally lifts her shirt up all the time."
Me: "Oh, do you tell her that we aren't supposed to do that?"
Ashlyn: "Nope! That's the teacher's job!"

Ashlyn definitely keeps us laughing throughout the day!

Valentine's Day Crafts

The girls decided they wanted to make their Valentine's day cards for preschool this year. Makenzie chose a butterfly and I chose a simple heart face that I knew Ashlyn could do with little help. Makenzie seemed to really enjoy making her cards this year, except for having to write her name on the back of each one. It doesn't help that she has a pretty long name, so getting her through fourteen cards was a huge accomplishment!! I thought the girls did a great job!

Mario Kart

The girls have recently taken a liking to the Wii, or specifically, Mario Kart. Although Ashlyn is going the wrong way half the time and doesn't even know it, Makenzie has actually gotten pretty good at the game. I pretty much stay away from Mario Kart, unless Ashlyn is struggling and daddy and Makenzie are too intent on completing their race to help little bit. Truth be told, I am terrible at this game, so I am fine with keeping my distance! Here are my little rascals playing the Wii.
